In-Tuition’s SaaS email infrastructure is comprehensive and comprises multiple different elements all operating together to deliver In-Tuition’s email services:
MX Nodes – clusters of MX Servers
All inbound email is handled by multiple MX Servers clustered together to form what we call MX Nodes. These Nodes are responsible for working out whether or not to accept individual emails (are they: for a valid recipient; spam; virus etc.) and where to forward them next - either to customer controlled servers or to the Zimbra Mailbox Servers.
Zimbra Mailbox Servers and SAN
Zimbra Mailbox services are handled by multiple high capacity Mailbox Servers and all email data is stored on a high capacity and highly redundant Storage Area Network (SAN).
SMTP Smart Hosts
Outgoing emails are routed via In-Tuition’s high capacity servers clustered together to create an SMTP Smart Host. The SMTP Smart Host routes all outgoing mail from Zimbra and can also be used by customers’ equipment.
Network Connectivity
In-Tuition’s data centre is fed by diversely routed 1Gb fibre connections provided by Kingston Communications, with transit provided by Level 3 and MFN.
